The Story of my Life
Since I remember myself, Art has been a central place in my life.
As a girl in Haifa, I was taken to dance classes at a very young age. I loved to improvise costumes and to dance to the sounds of the music I loved. In the years of my adolescence, I was already drawn to the language of drawing, as my central tool of expression. I studied Drama and Drawing, simultaneously to very serious studying of classical Ballet. Both Music, and the classic education which has started then, have had a great Influence on my creation ever since.
I have studied my academic education in “”- Academy for Art and Design, which I finished in 1976. Years later, I re-entered the gates of the academy as a Lecturer, teaching Drawing and Painting in the department of Visual Communication, between the years 2000-2020.
In I met Yuval Peled, a painter and a sculpturer, the man I have married to and who was a partner to all the things I have made in my life, until his sudden passing in 2014. We have built a house in “ , in the mountains of Jerusalem. There we brought up our three children; Rachel, Sarai and David, and there, each of us had his own space, in which we worked and created.
I have been dealing with teaching and art education since I was a student until now, in a variety of frameworks, by working with different communities. I taught in in schools in Jerusalem and in classes in a small school of Yuval and me, which we called “”.
I established in my house in my own Ballet Studio, in which I have taught for forty years.
The teaching, both in Art and Dance, has been another channel to express my creativity.
In the academic world I created courses for drawing lecturing, and in my private studio I created choreographies to which I designed costumes and built decorations.
Nowadays, I partly live in Jaffa, continuing painting and teaching as well as in my studio in Mevaseret, and also in the “Cricket and the Ant” in Jaffa, a studio located in an urban, noisy and varied surroundings, which is a prefect completion to the quiet in the studio in the mountains of Jerusalem.
I would like that my personal philosophy, the ideas as well as the moods and the feeling, will be part of the painting, without my necessity to explain them.
I claim that, the intellectual experience existing in the deep understanding of my art, does not precede the actual experience which is created from the core of the meeting with it, but an outcome of the experience that is created as a result of this meeting.
There is “transforming of ideas” which is beyond words, preceding the words, and following them.
For me, the fine understanding of the painting, is not connected with common imagery of something which is “beautiful”, but it is a choice of the observing’s focus. The interaction which is created between the theme of the observing, the light, the colors and the movement among them – this is the interaction echoing inside the observing person, as I clearly say what I want to say, in the language of the painting.
